World River Day

World River Day is celebrated every year on the fourth Sunday of September. Which will be celebrated on 25 September this year. This day was started in 2005, the same year the first World River Day was celebrated and since then it is celebrated every year to date. This year 18th World River Day is to be celebrated. This day is celebrated to increase public awareness about rivers and to pay attention to their conservation. The garbage being dumped in the rivers contaminates the water of the rivers, and it is also harming the living beings in it. These rivers are the means of life for many people, and cities. Talking about India, there are more than 400 rivers, out of which 8 rivers are the largest rivers in India. Many works like irrigation etc. are done through these rivers. In such a situation, when we use them for profit, then it becomes our responsibility that pays equal attention to their cleanliness. Due to the increasing water pollution, the living beings in it are harmed. Not only this, there is only water from rivers which comes clean to everyone’s homes. We all depend on rivers for our life but we never do anything for these rivers. Every year, efforts are made to clean the rivers by taking out lakhs of tonnes of waste in cleaning the rivers by NGOs, etc. Keeping in mind the negligence of rivers, this day is celebrated all over the world, and efforts are made to spread awareness among the people. Every year World River Day is celebrated with a theme.
