World Liver Day

World liver day is observed on every 19 April, to spread awareness about the liver-related disease. The liver is the second largest and the most complex organ in the body, with the exception of the brain. It is a key player in your body’s digestive system. Everything you eat or drink, including medicine, passes through the liver. You cannot survive without a liver. It is an organ which can be easily damaged if you don’t take good care of it.

The liver works hard, performing hundreds of complex functions, including:

  • Fighting infections and illness
  • Regulating blood sugar
  • Removing toxic substances from the body
  • Controlling cholesterol levels
  • Helping blood to clot (thicken)
  • Releasing bile (A liquid that breaks down fats and aids in digestion)

A normal liver contains some fat. If this fat increases to 5%-10% of the liver’s weight it then becomes a fatty liver. This disease causes liver inflammation that can result in similar scarring that happens in alcoholic fatty liver.

Tips for Liver Cleansing
