World Intellectual Property Day

Background

The event was established by the world intellectual property organization (WIPO) in 2000 to \”raise awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks and designs impact on daily life\” and \”to celebrate creativity, and the contribution made by creators and innovators to the development of societies across the globe\”.

History

It is committed to developing a balanced and approachable international intellectual property (IP) system, which reward creativity, encourage innovation and contributes to economic development while safeguarding the public interest.in 2000, WIPO\’s member states designated April 26, the day on which the WIPO Convention came into force in 1970. They want to minimise the gap between IP as a business or legal concept and its relevance to people\’s lives.

How to celebrate

To promote world intellectual property day every year, WIPO works together with several agencies of government, non-government organisations, community groups and individuals to organise events and activities.therefore, we can say that every year on 26 April world intellectual property day is observed to spread the awareness about the role that intellectual property rights (patents, trademarks, industrial designs, copyright) play in encouraging innovation and creativity.

Theme 2020

Every April 26, we celebrate world intellectual property day to learn about the role that intellectual property (IP) rights play in encouraging innovation and creativity.

Innovate for a Green Future

World IP day 2020 puts innovation – and the IP rights that support it – at the heart of efforts to create a green future. Why? Because the choices we make today will shape our tomorrow. The earth is our home. We need to care for it.
